Maciej
Harat, MD
Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology, Chief Scientific officer

Maciej Harat graduated from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Bydgoszcz, Poland, with an MD in medicine in 2008 and completed a residency in radiation oncology from Franciszek Lukaszczyk Oncology Center in 2015. Following his training he joined as staff at Franciszek Lukaszczyk Oncology Center. He was appointed as assistant professor of oncology and since 2020 is an associate professor of oncology at Nicolaus Copernicus University.
In 2018 he created and is appointed as first Head of Neurooncology and Radiosurgery Department. The departmental philosophy is to implement a wide variety of radiation delivery devices and novel imaging into radiosurgery planning.

As well, the department now operates in a single facility 8 linear accelerators including 2 Truebeams equipped with Exactrac Dynamic Radiosurgery system.

Prof. Harat has held a variety of administrative and leadership positions in radiation oncology, notably vice-president of Kujawsko-Pomorski Department of Polish Society of Oncology. He has co-authored reference guidelines of spine tumors multidisciplinary treatment endoresed by Polish Spine Surgeons Society and Polish Radiation Oncology Society. He has supervised and co-supervised a number of students from medicine and radiation -oncology trainees. He has published more than 20 manuscripts and traveled the world for more than 30 presentations as visiting professor.

Although his interests are varied (brain metastases, glioma, spine tumors), stereotactic radiation features prominently in his research funding, manuscripts and teachings. Maciej Harat, studies the use of molecular imaging in radiotherapy and radiosurgery, also the use of other modalities (eg. alternating electric field ) in combination with radiosurgery to improve efficacy and decrease the risk toxicity.

Most notably, he is principle investigator of an upcoming investigator sponsored trial of TTFields and Radiosurgery of Recurrent Glioblastoma with 18F-Fluoroethyltyrosine PET and co- investigator of a multinational randomized trial of radiosurgery for brain metastases and.
He received an award in Neuroimaging , Society for Neurooncology in 2022 in Tampa, USA.
Dr. Harat recently created a new Harat Brain Tumor Research center in Bydgoszcz where research and clinical trials priorities will increasingly feature innovative technologies dedicated to neurooncology.
